This guided tour explores the evolution of traditional tile-making in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries through the work of Kütahya’s master ceramist, Minas Avramidis, and his Genovefa Story plate series. How this remarkable group—offering an unconventional perspective on Kütahya—came into being is examined in the light of works from the Suna and İnan Kıraç Foundation Kütahya Tiles and Ceramics Collection. The tour also considers the environment of tile and ceramic masters, their relation with tradition and innovation, the imprint of social events on their art, and the ways these singular creations prompt us to rethink Kütahya tile-making in the twenty-first century.
